What does a hair relaxer and texturizer do?

The difference between relaxers and texturizers

A curl relaxer ensures that your hair becomes permanently straight. All your curls will disappear and straight hair will grow back in their place. A relaxer will sit in your hair for about 20 minutes to achieve the desired result.

By using a texturizer you preserve your natural curls. Your curls become softer and easier to care for and maintain. When using a texturizer, the product will not remain in your hair for more than 5 to 10 minutes.

You can also use a relaxer to texturize your hair. You will then have to adjust the processing time from 20 minutes to 5 to 10 minutes.

How do you use a hair relaxer and hair texturizer?

It is important to be well prepared before treating your hair. Do not wash the hair before using a relaxer or texturizer. This prevents irritation to the scalp during your treatment. The treatment looks like this:

1. Preparation: Prepare the relaxer or texturizer as indicated in the manual.
2. Protection: Apply a protective cream, Vaseline or coconut oil on the hairline, around the ears and neck. Cover your clothes with an old towel.
3. Apply: Apply the relaxer or texturizer to your hair in sections. Start at the front and work your way to the back. Always start with application on new hair growth. Work it out further by using a comb that further distributes the product over your hair.
4. Processing: Allow the relaxer or texturizer to work according to the processing time in the instructions. Set a clock and stick to the designated time exactly. Please note that for a texturized result the application time is more than half as long as for a relaxed result.
5. Neutralization: Rinse the hair thoroughly with a neutralizing shampoo. After this, your hair may feel dry and stiff. Always use a deeply nourishing conditioner afterwards.

Relax or texturize hair with a kit

With a hair relaxer or texturizer kit you immediately have everything you need to treat your hair. All you have to do is follow the steps at home. A hair relaxer or texturizer kit contains the frizz remover, a protective cream, shampoo and conditioner. Most hair kits from Fix My Hair contain gloves in addition to the hair products.

Aftercare after relaxing or texturizing hair

In order to enjoy your hair for 6 to 8 weeks, it is important to take good care of your hair. When washing, always choose a mild shampoo, preferably one sulfate free shampoo. And after washing, use a deep and nourishing conditioner. For extra care you can use a hair mask or hair oil treatments.

To ensure that your natural curl structure returns less quickly, it is wise to sleep with a silk scarf or microfiber cloth. And instead of a brush, use a large comb with long stitches. Try to avoid heat products as much as possible, such as a hairdryer, hairdryer or tongs. These dry out the hair and can even burn it.

After about 6 to 8 weeks, your natural curls will have grown back. You can then treat your hair again with a relaxer or texturizer.

What kind of hair texturizer or hair relaxer should I use?

The No Lye Relaxer has a limited shelf life, so you cannot store what you have left. This relaxer is the best choice for sensitive skin.
